Inspiration photo--choose a picture with a horizontal orientation

Criteria for picking a scene:
A variety of colors, with both lights and darks is important. Contrast is our friend. Where is my light source? What is the mood: stormy, spring-like or calm? If it is a complex scene can I simplify it?

The technique is raw edge fused appliqué. Fusing allows you cut shapes that are impossible with other techniques.

Gather your fabric:
Bring fabrics that reflect the colors in your reference photo. More is more when it comes to fabric. Batiks are a good choice and have a next texture with a variety of motif sizes. Fabrics with motifs that are regular and repeated are not recommended. Bring what you have and we can add to it, if needed.

One half yard of muslin base fabric. Finished piece will be about 29” x 22”.
Fabrics in the colors you wish to use. If you are buying fabric, one quarter yard or fat quarter
are enough.
1 yard wonder under
Applique pressing sheet (recommended, not required)
Rotary cutter with a new blade
Rotary mat/ruler
Paper and fabric Scissors, large size for fabric
Pins
