Sewing machine in working order
Straight edge ruler, 12” or longer
Square ruler 8” or larger
Rotary cutter with a new blade - we’ll be cutting through several layers of fabric
Usual sewing supplies: thread, bobbins, small scissors, a few pins, etc.
Bring 10 or 20 precut 10” squares, (You will need 30-40 for an entire quilt.) You can usually get 2 from
a fat quarter.
Choose at least 5 different colors, with 1 or 2 prints if you like; or all blenders
that read as solids. You can also use a monochrome pallet, but bring many
shades, tones and tints of your color choice. This looks good with batik, too!
You’ll need one 10” square for each finished block that will be 7.5”.
For common sizes, the following numbers of squares will be about right.
Baby = 30 (5x6)
Throw = 63 (7x9)
Twin = 120 (10x12)
You will leave class with enough for a few rows, more or less, depending how
comfortable you are with the technique.
